Warning

F.A.Hayek said that "in freedom-crushing totalitarianism, the worst get on top." Obvious, yes? No, because the fall into the abyss is gradual. Subsidies and economic redistribution at first seem innocuous and helpful. The sanctity of wealth and property and economic and political liberty slowly eroding at first also seem harmless. But the inevitable result is the fall into totaliarianism. Who would think that a leader is best who picks winners and losers, makes some people more equal than others and vilifies wealth and personal acquisitions? Can we name any such leader? Totalitarianism in disguise is still totalitarianism; the disguise is the problem.
