INTERVENTON

WHEN HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS FAIL THE PROFICIENCY TESTS, INTERVENTION KICKS IN. TEACHERS, WHO FAILED TO TEACH IN THE FIRST PLACE, ARE RE-EMPLOYED TO REPEAT INSTRUCTION AFTER-SCHOOL THE STUDENTS WHO HAVE ALREADY REFUSED TO LEARN. THREE ATTEMPTS TO PASS ARE ALLOWED BEFORE A HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR IS DENIED GRADUATION. INTERVENTION SATISFIES THE POLITICALLY CORRECT METHOD OF AN EDUCATION SYSTEM WHICH REMAINS TOTALLY DISCONNECTED FROM THE COMMON SENSE IDEA THAT ACHIEVEMENT SHOULD RECEIVE REWARD, FAILURE SHOULD NOT.

I CONSIDER ST. AUGUSTINE'S ONTOLOGICAL STATEMENT THAT "WHATSOEVER THINGS ARE, ARE GOOD," BUT THE BASIS OF EVIL IS SPIRITUAL AND THUS PART OF THE HUMAN CONDITION. HUMAN BEINGS ARE CAPABLE OF EVIL, PERPETRATED THROUGH THEIR CULTURE, NOT THEIR CIVILIZATION. AMERICAN CULTURE, IF WE JUDGE BY THE STATE OF POPULAR EDUCATION AND ENTERTAINMENT, IS IN DEEP TROUBLE. ITS SPIRITUAL BASIS IS COMPROMISED. HALF TRUTHS BEING WORSE THAN LIES, I WONDER IF THE ACCEPTABILITY OF HALF MEASURES OF INTELLECTUAL DEVELOPMENT IS WORSE THAN NO EDUCATION WHATSOEVER.

HINT: INTERVENTION IS A EDUCATIONAL JARGON FOR APPROVAL OF FAILURE.
