Christian duty

Christian duty Is it a Christian’s duty to fool himself? Repeatedly I hear of a local church holding dinners for the needy. As Easter approaches, I hear of another free meal being provided for the “homeless, disabled and underprivileged.” Now I know that a recent count of the homeless for 6 counties only turned up 6 homeless people who, by the way, self-reported. The disabled certainly tend to be overweight as opposed to starving. And, who by the word of God, are the underprivileged? No, I believe a free Easter meal from a local church organization is just an excuse for camaraderie among the brethren, a good meal and a feel-good, religious experience. Not bad you say? Not good if too many free meals do not reflect two truths - the absence of a hunger problem and the need to promote personal responsibility.
