CERTAIN DEATH

ABOUT THE YEAR 1700, AN OFFICER IN LOUIS XIV'S ARMY SAID "THERE IS NO JUDGE MORE EQUITABLE THAN CANNON. THEY GO DIRECTLY TO THE GOAL AND THEY ARE NOT CORRUPTIBLE." WAR IS A CERTAINTY IN THE NEVER-ENDING STORY OF THE HUMAN CONDITION. IN THE 17TH CENTURY, REGIMENTS WERE OFTEN RENTED OUT TO WARRING NEIGHBORS. CAMPAIGNING AND BATTLES TOOK PLACE IN SUMMER AND AUTUMN; SPRING AND WINTER WERE FOR REST, RECRUITING AND REPLENISHMENT. SIEGE WARFARE WAS POPULAR. YET THE DECISIVE ARM OF ANY BATTLE WAS THE INFANTRY. VICTORIES USUALLY CAME DOWN TO MAN VS. MAN. WHEN THE MATCHLOCK MUSKET GAVE WAY TO FLINTLOCK MUSKET, THREE CHEERS STILL ROSE FOR THE BETTER ARMED MUSKETEERS. THE ARMY WITH THE DECIDED ADVANTAGE, HOWEVER, WAS THE ONE WITH THE GREATER RELIGIOUS FATALISM., THAT IS, WHO BELIEVED MORE FERVENTLY THAT GOD LET NO ONE DIE UNTIL HIS TIME HAD COME. THERE WAS NOTHING TO LOSE, THEREFORE, IN PLIGHTING ONE'S TROTH TO VICTORY EVEN IF IT MEANT DEATH.

FAST FORWARD TO 2007. MUSLIM MUSKETEERS VS. AMERICAN PATRIOTS.
RELIGIOUS FANATICS VS. SOLDIERS HOGTIED BY LIBERAL, POLITICAL-CORRECTNESS. UNLESS WE ARE LED BY ANOTHER CHARLES XII OF SWEDEN (1700) OR GEORGE PATTON ( 1944), VICTORY WILL GO TO THE SPOILERS.
