Sycophants
Sycophants Should everyone go along with the President? According to Alexander Hamilton: “There are some who would be inclined to regard the servile pliancy of the Executive to a prevailing current, either in the community or in the legislature, as its best recommendation.” No, according to Hamilton. “Unqualified complaisance” is to be avoided. Though the people usually want the “public good,” they should not go along with the “adulator” who pretends that the public always reasons right about the means of promoting it ( the common good.).” Yes, Hamilton issued the warning against public adulation of the President. Against going along with him out of “servile pliancy” or the “sudden breeze of passion” or “every transient impulse.” Warning. Warning. Hamilton warned us about the “wiles of parasites and sycophants, ... the ambitious, the avaricious, the desperate... about men who possess their confidence more than they deserve it...” I’m thinking that what Hamilton warns us against, applies both to our President and his liberal sycophants. Check out the sound and fury of Obama’s commencement address to OSU Saturday. Yuck!
