Soul Mates

Soul Mates The modern model of marriage involves two “soul mates.” This model of expressive connection counters the older institutional model of a bond of romantic love, children, religious faith and mutual aid ( material and social). Disregarding the modern issue of gay marriage, I ask which model should be followed? If 32% of young adults say that they have NO religious affiliation, one link in the bond of marriage, faith, is obviously broken. What about children? What about the years when romantic love fades? What about mutual sharing of time, money or friends? When two souls collide, love creates a big bang, but what grows, expands and sustains the bond? Modern love? Or reading life’s meaning in each other’s eyes and souls?
