"Full potential"

We want all children to reach their “full potential,” so said the Mayor of Columbus, OH, some time around the announced retirement of the School Superintendent. He also said that we need to “re-assess” and “re-engage” our school system. What better proof of the failure of our nation’s public education system than words from ‘on high?’ 1. Not every child can or should reach his full potential. 2. Buzz words like re-assess and re-engage have been floated for four hundred years by educators. Ask yourself ( given amount of money and time), how far have we come?
